The entire 15 years of success of St. Joseph the Worker Job Networking Club can be attributed to two things - The wonderful volunteers that developed the Club and make it work, and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and it's Service Outreach Ministries for hosting the Club and providing the support we need to operate. "I’m excited to report that I have just started a new job with S3, Inc. in Huntsville. I found the position posted on ASmartPlace, a resource that I didn't know existed until I started attending the Job Club meetings. I really appreciate the knowledge and dedication of all of the volunteers, and the encouragement and support you provide at the meetings. It’s not easy trying to get back in the workforce later in our careers. A special thank-you to Dud, Ed, and Steve for emphasizing the importance of having a LinkedIn profile; S3’s online application required me to send them the link to mine! I heard from a recruiter the same day I applied and had an interview a couple of days later. It’s great to end 2024 on a positive note! Best wishes to all of you!" (P.O. - Club Member Dec 2024)
"I attended the SJW Job Networking Club a total of four times between September and October, and I'm happy to say the topic of each week's speaker was beneficial. I have subscribed to the Google Group, and I was qualified for a position at Amanda Howard Sotheby's that was listed last week.
I heard back from them on Monday, scheduled a phone interview, and I will soon be starting part-time, with opportunities to move up! I hope to be able to attend again soon, but the part-time hours are weekdays during the class. I do want to mention that I left a series of books on the library cart during my last attendance: The Stars Are Lined Up for Military Spouses and other federal resume references published by ResumePlace. I even left my bookmarks, and I hope they will help someone looking to enter a government job.
Thank you and the other volunteers so much for your hard work and organization with the Networking Club." (E.J. Club Member Nov 2024)

"I got a job at Griffon Aerospace by talking to my neighbor "networking". I am in my 2nd week there and things are going fine. Thanks for what you do and all your help. My hours are now 6am to 3pm so I can't stop by the club anymore. Say hi to all the volunteers." (T.C. Mechanical Engineering Oct 2024)
"I am a former job club participant. Seeing you and your husband at Huntsville airport Tuesday filled my heart with joy!
Thank you for all you do. I want you to know how much your efforts have impacted people. Not just me. My family, mostly, my 10 year old son, and those in my new career. I pray that I am a bridge from you to others. Encouraging everyone I encounter. PS. I have received a few awards for model officer and officer of the year." (V.E. Club Member - November 2024)

"Just wanted you to know that I was blessed with a part-time office position at Oakwood University yesterday. I am thankful for the part the Job Networking Club played in my ongoing preparation and search. I wish the organization and its members continued success and will certainly refer others who can benefit, whenever I have the opportunity to do so. Thank you and blessings to you and the team." "Good news! I'm in the process of on-boarding with SMX (Baltimore, MD), supporting the PEO Aviation office as an Administrative Assistant on RSA, to begin Monday, 8 July - woo hoo! Hopefully, there'll be some writing opportunities within the company, but I'd like to continue receiving your notifications, if you don't mind. Thank you so much for all that you and each volunteer do to help folks find employment! You're always encouraging, your guest speakers are very informative, and fellow job seekers have been wonderful to meet and get to know.
If it's alright to send me the contact information from the Job Club speaker 2 Tuesdays ago, I'd appreciate it - she said she would be praying for me, and the job offer came the very next day!" (K.M. - Administrative Assistant - July 2024)

"I’ve actually gotten a few interviews! I have either been in an interview or studying for one for the last few Tuesdays so I haven’t been able to make the meeting time. But I wanted to tell y’all thank you! The advice about tailoring the resume has been really helpful. I was doing limited tailoring before, but I really got into it and started updating for almost every job application. I also started applying for higher up jobs instead of playing it safe and applying below my skill level. Surprisingly, I’ve been getting callbacks on the higher up jobs (which is exciting because there will be more room for me to grow). Also - the 10 second elevator speech meeting came in handy. I had one interviewer say I did a really good job summarizing my background. I didn’t realize how much having a solid overview helps set the focus at the beginning of a conversation (for me and the interviewer)." (S.S. - Club Member April 2024)
"I have great news....I got a job!!!
I just started on Monday here at The Huntsville/ Madison County Chamber of Commerce. I am eternally grateful for everyone's help, advice and support along the way. I truly could not have done this without all of the information and encouragement that you gave not only me, but all of our members along the way. Being a part of the club was so informative and gave me the confidence and tools that I needed to move forward.
Again, thanks to you and all the volunteers. And, if you ever need me to give a presentation about the Chamber, have some of the associates from a Smartplace talk about the website or even How to Dress for Success, I'm always just a call away and would love to help out others in any way that I can! I hope that I can pay it forward some day!" (J.A. - Club Member April 2024)

"A lot has happened in my case in the last week. Last Tuesday (2/6) I accepted an offer to work with Infinity Tax and financial Planning, part time (24 to 30 hrs.). The owner is a member of my parish which is where several friends recommended that I call him. I did and he agreed to hire me for a good wage. I will be helping him short term with tax season and other assignments.
I also got a call on Tuesday from a Controller at Huntsville Utilities who is the spouse of someone whose mother is with my father-in-law at a memory care facility in Huntsville. I had mentioned to him several months ago that I was looking for a part time opportunity. I didn't realize that his wife worked at HU. The Controller called and said that they were short a staff person to help with several projects and would I be interested in an opportunity with them. It is a very slow process to interview with them. I will be meeting with her, the CFO, and others at HU on 2/16. I didn't want to miss an opportunity there should my new opportunity not turn out as expected, after a couple of weeks.
Finally, I started my training classes at North Alabama Housing Authority (NAHA) last Tues as well. I had signed up for classes with Marley at NAHA, who I met at your job fair last Nov. I wanted to consider something different to do in retirement and their program would help me learn several work skills and possibly help me get a part time job in the construction industry in Huntsville. This program and opportunity are unique for job searchers, and many should look into their program as part of an overall job search strategy.
It is amazing what networking can do in a job search. My case is a good example of how opportunities can develop if you cast your job search net out far and wide, be patient, and continue to work hard in all areas of your job search. What I didn't expect was that all these opportunities would come on the same day!!
Thank you to the St Joseph job networking club team for all your help, support, encouragement and prayers. Although I don't exactly know yet how my search results will finalize, I will say that your team and efforts were key in the success of my job search results." (K.B. - Financial Manager Feb 2024)

"Hey There, Well got some really positive news to share. This morning I received a tentative job offer for a logistics management specialist on Redstone. It feels like a great fit for me and my skill set. I haven’t formally accepted it yet but have every intention of doing so. Thank you for all the prayers, love and support albeit our time together was fairly short. I look to remain in touch." (S.P. - Logistics Management Jan 2024)
"I knew that re-igniting my career after raising our child would be an uphill climb, but St. Joseph the Worker Job Networking Club provided crucial help with their devoted volunteers, upbeat meetings, and abundant resources. The job club is invaluable for anyone looking for meaningful employment, be it a blue or white collar position. Navigating a job search can be a long, disheartening, lonely process. Don’t do it alone. Trust me and seek out this supportive community. It’s where I found my new job at Redstone Arsenal!" (S. Technical Writer Jan 2024)
"I accepted a great position as Director of Budget and Rates at Huntsville Utilities. It has been 3 months and I am loving it here. I am getting ready to email you a position that I have open. Thank you all for your support." (K.H. - Finance Director Jun 2023)
"Just a note of thanks to you and the JNC team for your support, advice, and encouragement to stay the course in pursuing employment. I am happy to inform you that I was employed by a company, based in Montana which opened a branch in Huntsville, as their Mechanical Design Engineer this past Monday. A special thanks to Mr.Gary Bond!" (T.P. - Mechanical Engineer Mar 2023)
"I want to announce to you that 2 weeks ago, February 15th, I got a job offer at a company in Huntsville, AL called NMR Consulting for the Website Administrator/Developer position! I am currently going through the clearance process right now and then I have to go through a background check. But yeah, there is a chance that I will not make it to the club meetings but I enjoy coming over there, especially Experience Plus! Take care and have a great day," (A.W. - Website Administrator Feb 2023)
"I would like to thank you for all your assistance with my job search. I got the Accountant I job with the City of Huntsville!! I started on the 28th of November." (D.A. - Finance Nov 2022)
"It was actually a while back, but I got a job as a research scientist at UAH. So far, it has been working out quite well, as it has some flexibility and still allows me to use my skills. The advice from the Job Club definitely played a huge part in my finding and acquiring the position. Thanks again for all your help!" (A.N. - Research Scientist Oct 2022)
"I wanted to let you know I officially started as a Special Education Resource Teacher at Giles County High School in Pulaski, TN. Through the ITeach Tennessee Program I will be paid as a full time teacher while finishing my certification endorsement in K-12th Special Education in May 2023. Thank you for the encouragement and support over the years. The Job Club has been a true blessing to the community. I will continue to keep in touch. Thank you for everything." (J.M. - Education Sep 2022)
"I wanted to thank all the volunteers for their valuable help and guidance, from helping me to identify my job interests, to generate a marketable resume, to be aware and understand the importance of many networking opportunities, and to feel confident to act on this knowledge. After attending a couple of job fairs listed on this job club website, I learned of a promising software position, applied, and received an offer. The wealth of job seeking tools from this job club is an excellent roadmap to success." (K.O. - Computer Programmer - August 2022)
"It is my pleasure and blessing to report that I have just started a new job at Northrop Grumman. So excited! Thank you all so much for your encouragement and dedication! Thank you!" (N.H. - Club Member Aug 2022)
"I have good news to share: I accepted a full-time job working in the Redstone Arsenal as a contractor giving direct support to NASA’s programs. I was referred by my former co-worker. So connection helped. The info sessions the job networking club gave also helped a great deal. It is good to get my foot in the door as I was told that the employer tends to promote from within. I want to thank you and the team for all your volunteer work. It means a lot to each individual of us. I will come by tomorrow to say “hi”. After I start my job I may not have many chances to come by. Thank you!" (L. Club Member Aug 2022)
"During today's meeting you asked if I could send a summary of the topics I brought up today. I had to speak really fast and probably haphazardly to try to cram things into those 3 minutes but here's a partial outline of how a more structured presentation would go:
MY JOB HUNTING STATISTICS AND RESULTS OVER A 3 MONTH PERIOD
Purpose of providing these statistics: A) Give other job hunters a point of reference of how many resumes need to be sent out to land an interview and an offer over a certain period of time. Maybe some will realize they're not sending out enough, maybe some will find they are way ahead. But without an example to compare to it's difficult to make that judgement
Number of resumes sent to independent recruiting agencies (general resume submissions, not for a specific job posting from these agencies): 13
> related topic: searching for and utilizing specific recruiting agencies (examples: agencies specializing in speakers of foreign languages, agencies for engineers, agencies for sales, agencies for general labor, etc.)
Number of applications sent (directly to an employer or an independent recruiter with a specific job posting. This number also includes unsolicited resumes): 112
Number of phone screenings: 20 (estimate)
Number of Interviews (in-person or online video w/ hiring manager)
10 (1 additional was declined due to short time window after a receiving an offer)
Results of these 10 interviews
# Rejections: 3
# No answers: 3
# I declined to proceed with after discussing: 1
# OFFERS: 3
# GOOD OFFERS: 2
How I got these 10 interviews
- my LinkedIn connection posted a job: 1
- Kelly Services visited St-joseph-job-networking-club: 1 (result: entry level offer)
- St-joseph-job-networking-club email newsletter job posting (this position was not posted on the company's website): 1
- Independent recruiting agency I contacted (general resume submission) matched a job and arranged interview: 1
- Independent recruiting agency contacted me (found my resume online) and arranged interview: 2
- standard online job posting (local position): 2
- standard online job posting outside AL but I suggested myself as a remote candidate: 1 (result: best offer)
- dropped off an unsolicited paper resume at office suggesting myself as a local candidate: 1 (result: 2nd best offer)
> TAKEAWAY MESSAGE: You don't have to always respond to fit into the molded positions employers are offering, sometimes the best positions come from taking initiative and having the employer respond to your suggestion!
> OTHER MESSAGE: Company A told me verbally they planned to make an offer. Instead of kicking back I proceeded with the job search as if no offer would be coming or that I wouldn't like the offer. I applied at Company B 10 days after the interview with company A. Company B then quickly made an excellent offer and company A didn't make an offer until I told them I had a deadline to respond. In the end company B had the best offer. Takeaway: a better offer may be just around the corner if you look for it instead of sitting on your butt

"Hello! Thank you so much for all of the support the Job Club provided this week. The speaker, Mr. Cheeks presented uplifting, encouraging words on October 19, 2021. Afterwards, I was kindly invited by Gary Bond to attend an Experience Plus meeting with Carla Holder on Zoom, and Fran Henry at the table.
Within two days, I've been contacted by Fran Henry and Herb Hayes. Mr. Hayes has shared several hints, tips and clues for a sparkly resume. I also made some new LinkedIn connections, including Maureen Chemsak. It'll be a challenging career hunt, because I'm looking for something part-time near the Athens / East Limestone / Madison area. I'm looking forward to the future meetings, and making better friends = networking connections." (K.S. - Club Member October 2021)

"I just wanted to share this good news with you and the team at Saint Joseph Job Club. I got a job as a Database Administrator with the City of Huntsville. The pay and benefits are great and the job is more inline with my past experience.
I want to thank you all for the help and support I received during my job search. After several failed interviews there was a time when I felt I'm never going to get a job in Huntsville. However, I kept showing up to our weekly meetings at the SJW job club which kept me motivated.
The volunteers at SJW job club had advised me not to limit job search to specific roles so I had started applying for IT Support jobs and got hired at Amazon in August. I continued applying while working for Amazon and eventually got the offer from the City of Huntsville. I put down my two weeks notice at Amazon and since then they have offered me an IT Engineer role with better pay and stock options to convince me to stay back but I have decided to move on and start a new journey with the City of Huntsville.
I thank you all again for all the help, support and guidance. I wish for you all a healthy, happy and joyous life. You all are doing a great service to the people of Huntsville/Madison area and may God reward you for it in this life and the hereafter." (S.S. - Data Base Administrator Oct 2021)

"This is the 2nd time in 6 yrs to come to the Job Network Club. Both times I was employed within 2 to 3 weeks I found employment. I did not find my employment through the club but it put me in the right mind set and attitude to sincerely seek new opportunities. Thank you all and God bless!" (R.R. - Club Member Sep 2021)
"I will be starting at Sabghi's Jewlers on the 13th. I happened to be in one day because they are next to Main Street Nutrition. I was getting a smoothie when I saw the "Help Wanted" sign on Sabghi's door. I didn't go in that visit, but thought about it. A day or do later, I saw the Job Club posting and considered it a "sign". Went in and met 2 of the staff, picked up an application. Took it home, filled it out, and brought it back the next day. That was Friday. Met with the owner's wife this past Tuesday, got the call the with the job offer from Mr. Sabghi on Thursday.
It all happened so quickly. It turns out that we have a friend in common, one I used to work with at Huntsville Event Magazine. They asked her about me and she must have spoke highly of me, LOL. (It's been a long time since a hiring process went so quickly for me!) I'm still freelance writing for Huntsville Business Journal as well as adjunct teaching Marketing and Customer Service. To me, it's a good opportunity to bring relevance into the classroom. Walking the talk. Thanks again for all that you do!" (L.C. - Customer Service Sep 2021)

You provide a valuable service to the Huntsville professional community." (R.S. - Club Member June 2021)
"I am working on a DoD contract as an engineer for Strategic Defense Solutions. This was a job network recommendation. The position was never advertised. I believe the one time I came in the guest speaker was discussing the importance of networking. Again, thank you all for what you do for those of us seeking employment." (R.R. - Engineering June 2021)
"I appreciate the information and including me in the email. I do have good news. I am game fully employed as of 10 May. This is twice in 8 yrs that I attended the Job Network where shortly after attending I am back to work. Thank you all for all that you do! (R.R. - Club Member May 2021)
"Good news! I found a full time job! Thanks for Everything! The job market is awesome right now and employers really have to compete for the qualified workers. I focused on applying for work from home jobs in my field. There are so many! I had to turn down an offer and tell other companies I had interview with that I was no longer interested because they moved to slowly and I accepted another offer!! I would encourage people to apply to jobs on Indeed, Linkedin, and Zip Recruiter." (C.M. - Club Member May 2021)
"I’ve been a member of the Job Club for quite some time. I’ve started my own company! I’d like to hire one or two drivers (1099 positions) to provide Non-Emergency Medical Transportation. I want to reach out to Job Club Members first before I go public. I’m thankful for all the help from the Job Club and I’m excited to be able to give back! Best," (S.B. - Club Member Jan 2021)
"Wanted to let you know I am working two part- jobs as it turns out, and one may become full time eventually. And I am good with that!
I wanted to thank you for helping to get me going in my job search! I ended up speaking with Fran Fruhler at Manna House - after a conversation with Melinda Inglis and am doing some part time work for Fran at the hydroponic garden for Manna House. I had spoken with Melinda about non-profits and Fran's name came up, who I had met previously! My other part-time job is with Bowers Plumbing, where my son works and I have known the owners there for quite some time. That may turn out to be full time at some point.
Anyway, I wanted to thank you for all the great information from the Job club, and meeting videos, which were very helpful! I met someone today whom I referred to the Club. Thanks again" (M.A.D. - Club Member Jan 2021)

"Good news— I’m currently deciding between two nice job offers: one from Interfuze and one from Dynetics. Thank you for your help and encouragement! I have determined Dynetics will be my new employer—an adventure I look very forward to embarking upon.
I feel like my being available to new members for any suggestions or encouragement would be good. The SJW job club has given me these things and I am happy to pay it forward however God wants. I will gladly pass along any job opps I hear, too!" (N.H. - Club Member Oct 2020)

"As I told you earlier but wanted you to pass it along to the Job Club. I decided this spring to change careers after being laid off from a job in the furniture retail sales industry. So, I am currently enrolled in school through Western Governors University majoring in Special Education Mild to Moderate Disorders pursuing my teaching certification. The first week of August I was hired on with the Giles County TN School System as an aide at Richland Elementary school. I am currently working here full time, a part-time job, and going to school full time. By the end of 2021, I will have my certification to teach special education in Tennessee and Alabama. I have attended meetings off and on since 2010 and have always stayed on the email list. The email list is a great resource even for those who are employed. I will be keeping in touch and networking when time is available. Personally, want to thank all the volunteers who make the group possible, the volunteers are a great group of individuals. Who I have learned valuable lessons from over the years. Thank you once again for the encouragement over the years." (J.M. - Education Aug 2020)
"Hi folks, we wanted to send the St. Joseph Networking Club some Kudos on behalf of our STEMettes, our club needed info on self-directed learning courses so your course recommendations here are awesome- http://sjwjobclub.org/resources.html
Sadly we can't meet in person at the moment because of the pandemic. Since many of our superstars are stuck inside & have expressed an interest in learning new skills during the summer we've been trying to compile a list of virtual learning sites for them. You gave us many materials to include so we wanted to send a personal thanks!
I asked the gang if they had any favorites to pass along, many of them tried Free Code Camp and liked it. One of the kiddos Skylar (12) has a newfound passion for coding she discovered during these crazy times. She sent me this article about different online courses that colleges are offering for free- https://www.swagbucks.com/articles/the-ten-best-ways-to-get-free-college-classes
We liked it since many of those have really good computer science courses, we hope you do too! Sky thought it would be a good addition to your page maybe you would consider adding it? If so I'll be sure to show them at our Zoom meeting this weekend, I know she would be ecstatic to contribute some enrichment to other home learners during these hectic times! If you have any other recommendations feel free to share but only if it's no trouble.
Thanks again all, please take care and stay safe! " (T.W. STEM Huntsville Aug 2020)

"Hello there, just wanted to update you I have accepted a salaried position to work for the VA in Atlanta so I’ll be moving in a few days, thanks for everything and all your help to get me to this point. Although it has been a great challenge for me these past few months, i appreciate you and I can’t wait to see what my future and career has in store for me!" (S.D. - Club Member Jul 2020)

"I have been holding off telling you this as I was hoping that the networking club would start meeting again at the facility so I could come surprise you and tell you personally. Alas, it is not to be and I can’t hold it in any longer! I started looking for a job again in January after not looking for over a year and got an offer in March! I didn’t even know if I would have a job to go to because my start date was the last week of March, right when the shut down took place. Fortunately though, they said they needed me and I have been training at home for a couple of months now! I am working as an account manager for Discovery Life Sciences on the Hudson Alpha campus. It was just the type of opportunity I was looking for!
I wanted to tell you and all of your wonderful volunteers and speakers how much I appreciate the time you all spend helping others achieve their goals. Not only did I follow your recommendations in networking and volunteering in order to get to a position I wanted, but I became friends with those that I connected and/or volunteered with along the way. That was a very nice surprise and a double blessing!
I have and will continue to recommend the networking club to all those I come across looking for a job. Also, I will try to keep you posted as to the opportunities I hear about on the Hudson Alpha campus. There are many positions currently available at Discovery Life Sciences and they can be applied for here: https://discoverylifesciences.applicantpro.com/jobs/
Thank you all so much again. Take care!" (K.K. - Finance Mar 2020)

"Thank you again for all your help in the search that led to my getting the job (at S3) that I started last month. I really appreciate you and your fellow volunteer's taking the time to work with me individually in addition to, of course, your work with the group as a whole. Thanks again for all your help and I will plan to drop by at lunchtime once the Club is able to resume meetings." (S.K. - Lawyer April 2020)

"I've attended a couple of Tuesday meetings of the job club and found this to be a worthwhile experience. Thank you for offering this opportunity. I did accept a job last week so I will not be attending any more and will no longer need the emails. Should things not work out at the new job, I will definitely be back and will recommend the job club to others." (C.P. - Club Member Feb 2020)
"I wanted everyone to know that I accepted the job as the Documentation Librarian position at Victory Solutions. They knew me from a previous interview and invited me to apply for an upcoming position. I was offered the job at a call-back interview. I want to thank everyone who helped me! Thanks again!" (M.R. - Librarian Jan 2020)
"Hello and happy new year to all. I’ve gotten a job!!! I’m working in insurance as an account manager. Thank you all for your support and friendship. "I have received and accepted a job offer to start in early December. I wish to thank you, the stalwart regular volunteers, and others for the smart and encouraging environment that the St. Joseph the Worker Job Networking Club provides. It has been both informative and emotionally supportive the last three years. As I hear of opportunities that may fit SJWJC job seekers, I’ll let you know. Keep up the great mission!” (J.H. - Lean Six Sigma November 2019)
"I wanted to let you know that I have received a job offer with KBR that starts next month and how much I appreciate the networking experience that the Job Club has provided. It allowed me to not only work on my elevator pitch but make new contacts and enhance my LinkedIn network.

"Hey guys, Haven't seen you in a couple weeks. The first time I missed a meeting was due to an interview, the second time was because I was sick, and the third meeting I missed (the most recent one) was because I was at my second day of WORK! thank you to Herb, Dud, Carla, Sidney, and all the volunteers for creating a supportive and helpful environment.
Phillip Hand's presentation (How to be Found in the Digital Era) was particularly transformative in my job search and yielded amazing results. I was looking for something 'stable,' and ended up finding an amazing position with Dynetics. They even went well over my salary requirements! I have shared what I used from the Moseley team's presentation with family members in other states, 2 of which are also now in new positions with better salaries! That advice REALLY works! Thank you!" (T.L. - Club Member Nov 2019)

" I wanted to let you know I accepted a position with Quantum Research this morning. I cannot begin to tell you how valuable and appreciated Job Club has been to me. Not only by providing a forum for discussion on securing employment, but just as a way to connect with people who are in the same situation that I was. I sincerely looked forward to attending meetings every Tuesday!
I attended the meeting a number of weeks ago with the speaker Phillip Hand, titled "How to be found in a digital world". After listening to his presentation, I immediately ran home and updated my LinkedIn profile. Last Wednesday, I applied for a position that came up via LinkedIn, got a call Thursday evening, interviewed Friday morning, and came to a satisfactory arrangement by 10am this morning.
Thanks again for all the work you and the rest of the volunteers do! It makes a difference, and I'm so happy I found the Club!" (L. A. - Club Member Nov 2019)

"To all of the St Johns Networking group, Over 50 + Group. I have been following up on a possible job opportunity for 2 months. I had 2 interviews early in this period but the progress of hiring was slow. The company was in the process of reorganizing and setting up new standard & training. Unfortunately, their computer system while being upgraded had a problem. After a completed background check, I followed up with an email requesting the next step in their hire procedure. When they recovered my email, I got the call. Fellow Net work folks, please follow up you never know. I now have gone thru the airport badge system, orientation with the company and start next Monday. Although it is starting as part time, it has potential of becoming full time with cross training in their accounting department. I could make it full time if I dropped my 2nd job that I have been at for 7 years. When I pass the 90 days probation period, the 2nd job may go away.
As the slogan goes," If you have a job, it is easier to find another better job". I will continue to look for that dream job and apply for state jobs so maybe that dream job will just come about. OR This is will be my dream job with better promotions after that 90 day probation. The company has the proper corporate & training structure so the potential upgrade is up to me.
I want to thank the Networking group / volunteers for the positive input, resume review, speakers, friendliness, support, availability, and open communications. Please leave me on your email list for job opportunities. I will come to visit when possible. Best of luck to all of you. Every time you send out that resume / cover letter, send it out with a prayer & a wish.!!!!" (C.M. - Club Member Oct 2019)

"Hi. Been meaning to send you my thoughts on why my job hunt went positive in August this year:
1. Prayer. Per scripture, "God wants the best for you"
2. Self analysis. Take a real look at what you can offer, now. Doug Brazier offered a candid assessment of my talents and suggested being a contract home building inspector. I began looking into this as a source of income.
3. Networking. After two good interviews I realized I did not know a single person in the 15 people involved in my two interviews. I began calling people I had met or knew. One of these referred me to my present boss and employer.
Hope this helps all you "Saints" offering assistance to those searching, and knowing anyone can be looking, or getting, a new source of income today or tomorrow. And that I can get back to being a volunteer at future St. Joe meetings." (C.M. - Building Trades Oct 2019)

"Good day! Thank you all for standing by me in my search for work. I am happy to report I joined Affordable Foundations and Home Repair of Hartselle, AL as their Professional Engineer. This could lead to major projects and new markets." (C.M. - Engineering Sep 2019)
"Well: Good news: I've been asked to take a teaching job (teaching elementary Spanish at Providence Elementary). Kind of a God-thing, really -- and came about because of networks, not application (I speak Spanish like a gringa, but my friend who works there knew I had the Spanish credential, so got her principal to call me because they were so hard-up). The next adventure!
Thank you again for all you do to help keep St. Joseph's Job Networking program going. It was really good to spend a couple Tuesdays there to be reminded of the many talented people looking for work and of the resources that are available. I hope to see you soon (but NOT because I'm looking for another job!!). (K.C. - Teacher Aug 2019)

"The good news is that I got a job again! The bad news is, it’s in Paducah, KY. And I’ll have to move away from newly established friends. As of August 5th, I’ll be the new Executive Director of Barkley Regional Airport in Paducah, KY. Please extend a heartfelt BIG THANK YOU to everyone at the job club for their help and support. It’s a great and helpful organization. All the best." (D. R. - Executive Manager July 2019)
"I found my job on indeed.com and applied on the company website. There were so many jobs that I had applied for online where I had heard nothing, but I just kept trying.
To find this job, I created a job search folder on my computer and I would keep copies of the job announcement and the tailored resume and cover letter that I submitted. When I applied for a similar job, I was use a previous resume and cover letter as a starting point.
When I was called for an interview, I would print out the job description and make notes about job experience for each item. I would also take samples of my previous work.
I learned most of this from Bob Gossett at the Alabama Career Center in Huntsville. Although the workshops are geared toward State and Federal jobs, the tips work for any job." (N.B. - Club Member Jul 2019)

"I want to thank job club for all the support I received when I was abruptly laid off from my job last year. Job club made me get up from my computer, get dressed, and be with supportive people. The guest speakers were truly tremendous and motivational. My spirits were lifted. I was not the only person looking for a job. I am now working full time with a defense contractor in my dream job. I highly recommended job club!"

"Greetings All St. Joseph Job Networkers, I cannot begin to express how vital it is to network through St. Joseph and consistently check your emails on job postings. Persistence and prayer is key. I3 Corps. has grown over the last couple of years from 200 to almost 600 employees. Just in the last month alone they have hired 40 people including me.Please check out their career portal right here: https://careers-i3-corps.icims.com/19061/. I will also stay in touch with St. Joseph Job Networking as well. God Bless & Thank You!" (R. O’C. - Travel Coordinator Jun 2019)
"I wanted to provide you an update that I received an offer of employment with i3 and begin this Wednesday, June 26th. I am grateful for your referral and want to thank both you and Maureen Chemsak. St. Joseph Job Networking Club is an invaluable networking service to our Madison community. While I am not able to attend often, I am consistent with reading all job postings via email from Maureen and the PowerPoint presentations from various speakers throughout the years. Priceless. Again, thank you kindly. God Bless." (R. O'C. - Travel Coordinator Jun 2019)
"Thank you for your help getting me through the e - QIP process (government security clearance). I am now a FEMA contractor with a badge awaiting deployment." (C.M. - Club Member Jun 2019)
"I accepted a job at PPG Aerospace. Please remove me from your distribution list. Thank you for all the information you and the volunteer team provided." (A.A. - Club Member May 2019)
"A big “Thank You” to you and the group for encouraging me to apply for “Active Security Clearance” jobs if they were a good fit, even though I didn’t have one. I got my foot in the door of “Clearance World” back in September 2017 with DynCorp International since they gave me a waiver on the clearance requirement and started me right away. I attained my “Interim Secret” in about two months, had my interview almost a year later, and then received a “Secret” after about 1.5 years total time. After attaining my clearance, I was able to step back into IT Management (this time for government contractor) and am in process of attaining my “TS” with another company named S³. I had my TS interview within only 1.5 months of working, so thinking the backlog has been reduced.
Now I would like to share back to the group… We are in need of a couple folk ASAP, so please share these two openings with the Job Club." (J. M. IT Support - May 2019)

"Thank you to everyone at Job Club for the chance to practice an interview. Those three magic words "go", "get", and "it" are music to my ears- a much needed self confidence boost! If you all like what I bring, so will the company HR personnel. We'll see where this experience leads me.
Until next time" (M. G. - Technical Writer April 2019)

Paying it Back - "I was in your Job Networking Club years ago and still receive your emails. We have numerous openings where I work and would like to see if there was anyone there who has the experience/degree that might be interested. I work on the PATRIOT Software Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V). We're looking for engineers that know modern scripting languages. It would be GREAT if they have IV&V experience but not necessary. We also have some Cybersecurity openings as well. I would love to look at any resumes (especially with good references) that you can forward our way. Thank you for what you do!!!" (M.S. - Software Testing Mar 2019)
"I always appreciate the good learning that I got with the Madison Job Club. Those lessons, especially those directly involved with resume preparation, personal thank you notes and different structured resumes have made the difference. Please share that with folks...and I'm happy to help those with security clearances interested in relocation to the New England area. Warmest Regards" (D. T. - Club Member Feb 2019)
"After seven long months, I finally landed a job as a warehouse manager with a jewelry and apparel company in Decatur. They have off the charts growth and are looking for a fresh set of eyes with distribution skills and experience. Thanks to everyone for your advice and encouragement especially the tireless efforts of the leadership group. Also a shout out and debt of gratitude to Bob Gossett who helped rework my resume and focus my efforts toward the right markets. I had been barking up the wrong trees for four months.
My friends, take heart! If a bone head like me can find a job, you can too. It will come God's way and in God's time. That last part is always the hardest to accept. Keep your chin up and your feet moving. Please reach out if I can do anything to help." (W.L. - Logistician Jan 2019)

"This note serves two purposes: First, and foremost to say "Thank You" to the Club and volunteers that encourages and inspires so many Job Seekers each week. At a time when many are vulnerable and lose Hope, The Job Network Club is a Lighthouse! Second, I have obtained a position at UAH as a Research Scientist. I shall always remember the professionalism and kindness shown while attending. Should you ever need me please contact me. Best regards" (Dr. G.S. - Research Scientist Nov 2018)
"Just wanted you to know I got a job with Boeing as a Procurement Agent by going to a Job Fair and talking with their managers." (C.M. - Procurement Nov 2018)
"Just want to let you know that I got a position in iRepertoire as R&D Lab Technician. Actually I had applied for a different position, was interviewed but did not get the job. I sent a follow-up email similar to the example in the article by Alison Doyle. About two months later, the company contacted me about another position (which was not advertised in the HudsonAlpha job listing) which they think would be a better fit for my background, so now I got that job. This illustrates that a good follow-up email is just as important. Thank you to all the volunteers in the Job Club for all the help with cover letter and resume writing. Even though I had attended the talks on such topics more than once, I always learned something new to try out in my next resume and cover letter." (K-W.W. - Lab Technician Oct 2018)
"I am working as a system administrator. Never done this kind of work but so far it is going great. It is with SES. Thanks for the well wishes. Thanks for everything." (S.W. - Systems Administrator Oct 2018)
"I truly want to thank you for helping me to regain my composure and self-confidence. Thanks to you, I picked myself up with a new attitude. I went into my interviews and let them know I was the perfect candidate for the position. My resume had also been revised as per your guidelines. Success! I landed the job of my dreams. I cannot thank you enough.Best Regards" (W.H. - Club Member Oct 2018)

"Thank you so much for your help in reaching out to your contact at iCubate for me about the Quality Systems Associate job, and thank you to the other volunteers for reviewing my resume. I start this Monday, and I am very excited! The job club truly helped me find out about the job and get a foot in the door. Thank you all again for your help!" (A.M. - Quality Control Sep 2018)

"My family is now all employed! I joined as a stay at home mom when my husband's contract ended 2.5 years ago. I found a job with Redstone Federal Credit Union through the club but stayed on the list to encourage my husband. Then my daughter came home and went to a job fair with Bank Independent that you shared and she is now employed. My husband finally received an interview through his updated LinkedIn profile and has an offer. Thank you all for your faithfulness!" (L. S. Family! - Wife, Husband & Daughter - Banking July 2018)
(Congratulations to H. G. for getting a technical writing job at the AUSA Global Force Symposium Job Fair! And, she eventually got a secret clearance, and is now working with a “great group of people.” Best of luck to you, H, and we wish you continued career success. Perseverance and persistence pay off; it’s keeping the motivation up that is the most challenging, but you did it! Never despair; there is a plan for you and all job seekers who push forward! God speed! Mjc)
"I have a job....after a very long search. Yippee!
After emerging from a failed business I found it very difficult to find employment. My entrepreneurial efforts were not in the same field as past employment so it made for a checkered resume. Still, I learned a lot, and many of these lessons can be applied to my everyday life and future career positions.
Because of my checkered resume, when I attended the 2018 AUSA Global Force Symposium job fair I didn't have any hope that visiting potential employers would result in a paid position. In the past, in all jobs fairs, I experienced what I would call watered down platitudes. Only Life Insurance agencies and truck driving schools appeared energetic. I had no interest in either of these fields and didn't think I would do well in them.
Still, I gingerly entered the job fair area and made the rounds after being cheered on by two delightful hosts at the entry way. Much to my surprise several companies had positions for technical writers, my career before entering the coffee shop business. This felt good but I didn't hold out an inch of hope.
On a whim I decided to get some help with my resume. I thought it was well-written but I wasn't confident the checkered past was presented well. I made an appointment with a reviewer based on availability. Another counselor became available immediately so I quickly switched and talked to the available counselor.
She surveyed my resume and said, "My company has an opening for someone with your skills." Within a week I interviewed with a project manager. He sent my resume to his customer who quickly accepted me. After nearly three months of waiting for an interim SECRET clearance, I am now employed alongside a great group of people.
I had nearly given up and my self esteem was low. It was just through persistence and the grace of God that I'm now a wage earner again.
My sincerest gratitude to the team at St Joseph the Worker Job Club for your efforts. Weekly seminars and sending out job lists are a true service to the job seeker community." (H.G. - Technical Writer July 2018)

The people are very nice and there are good benefits.
Thank you to all at SJW whom I have come to know, particularly to networker extraordinaire George Winter, who kept me abreast of all the networking events (he doesn’t miss any); to Mike Marty, for giving me valuable tips during a practice interview; to Matt Hamm for his SAIC assistance; to John Haley for part-time work ideas; to Bob Gossett, for his presentations and his class on Alabama Job Link, to Katharina Edmonds, for lining up truly inspiring speakers. Also to all the volunteers who keep the meetings going every week and to all the guest speakers.
This club was valuable to keeping my spirits up and my hopes alive, as well as helping me learn to network and learn about the local job market and supportive business culture. Honestly, I am thankful for this experience. I wish you all the best in your job search, and I will alert Maureen to things I hear about." (D.B. - Technical Writer Mar 2018)
